A Drumming Life
Sombreros, Pinatas, Tacos and a Mariachi Band, add in an interactive drum circle and you've got a Mexican Fiesta. To open the new Stockland display village in Stoneridge a quiet suburban street came alive with colour and all things Mexican. It was fun to facilitate a lively circle with participants of all ages. Plenty of cool grooves being shared around.
The start of April saw the arrival of a truck full of new stock. 28 assorted new drums and variety of new percussion instruments meant that our house was a buzz with excitement, new toys and lots and LOTS of packing material. Needless to say not much else got done around our house for the next few days!
The new instruments have naturally found their way into my street performance. I have been enjoying hitting the streets around Mooloolaba and recently performed at Junk and Hello Harrys in the Ocean Street precinct. The crate kit junk percussion, combined with djembe rhythms and balafon and kalimba melodies are getting the people of the Sunshine Coast grooving
In a serene little pocket not far from Woombye I spent a weekend around a campfire, meeting new friends with a shared love of drumming. Some beautiful communal meals were had along with some r & r followed by 9 hours of solid jam time into the wee hours.
That's all for now!! Keep an eye out on Facebook and Instagram for plenty more exciting things to come...
